How it Works

Artists should submit an artwork that fits the May theme of “The Flavor of Life – Food and Drink”. Food and drink are more than sustenance–they bring people together, tell stories, and reflect culture, tradition, and artistry.  Whether your work captures the warmth of a family gathering, the artistry of a perfectly plated dish, or the charm of an old teacup, we want to see your creative interpretation. There are no restrictions on size or materials and all mediums are acceptable*. Artwork shall be an Artist original work, NOT AI generated, and not previously entered into a Big Island Art Fair contest.

Visitors to the Fair will vote for their favorite entry. The entry with the most votes will win First Prize and a $250 cash prize. Second Prize will be $100 and Third Prize will be $50.

Artists are invited to sell their entry at the Fair but they are not required to do so. Note that the Big Island Art Fair charges a 20% commission for all sales. If you are not present but indicate on the form below you wish to sell your entry, the Big Island Art Fair will conduct the sale for you and forward the net proceeds.

* Note: Artwork must be capable of being displayed on the stage in Kahilu Town Hall. Artists are encouraged to supply their own easel or stand and are required to do so for artwork larger than 18 inches.

Contest Rules

1. There is no fee to enter, but you must be at least a part-time resident of the Big Island of Hawaii.
2. The deadline to enter (via the form below) is 11:59PM HST Tuesday April 29th, 2025.
3. To be eligible, entries must to be delivered to Kahilu Town Hall (Fair location) during Fair hours no later then 1:00PM on Friday. (Delivery by 10:00 am on Thursday is strongly recommended.) Once delivered, the entry must remain on display at the Fair until the Winners Announcement on Saturday.
4. Contest Voting:
   • Visitors to the Fair will vote for their favorite entry
   • One vote per visitor per day
   • Voting will be during Fair hours, beginning at Fair open on Thursday until 2:00PM Saturday
5. Contest Winners Announcement and Prizes:
   • Contest Winners will be announced at the Fair on Saturday at 3:00PM
   • Prizes shall be awarded as follows:
     • Most votes – First Prize of $250
     • Second most votes – Second Prize of $100
     • Third most votes – Third Prize of $50
6. You do not have to be present to win (although highly encouraged!)
7. Unsold entries must be picked up by 5:00PM on Saturday, the last day of the Fair. The Big Island Art Fair is not responsible for transporting or storing entries that are not picked up. If you are not personally picking up your entry please contact Kathy Sprinkle (kathy@bigislandartfair.com) to discuss arrangements.
8. The Big Island Art Fair ASSUMES NO LIABILITY FOR ANY LOSS, THEFT, OR DAMAGE TO ENTRIES.
9. The Big Island Art Fair reserves the right to limit the number of entries and disallow entries that, at its sole discretion, do not meet the contest’s criteria or are not in the best interest of the Big Island Art Fair. The Fair is a family friendly event so entries should be suitable for viewing by all ages.
10. The Big Island Art Fair is not responsible for any typographical errors in the announcement of any prize or these rules. No responsibility or liability is assumed by the Big Island Art Fair for technical problems, malfunctions, human error, or other occurrence or circumstance which may affect the operation or outcome of the contest. If for any reason the contest is not capable of running as planned, the Big Island Art Fair reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to cancel, modify, or suspend the contest.

Rules Agreement, Artwork/Photo and Liability Release *

• In consideration for participation in an Everyday Enterprises LLC DBA Big Island Art Fair (“BIAF”) art contest (“Contest”), by checking this box and signing below I, and also on behalf of my minor child if this is their contest entry, agree to the following:
  (a) I agree to unconditional acceptance of the Contest rules and decisions of the BIAF;
  (b) If I indicate the submitted artwork (“Artwork”) is for sale I certify that it is free of any encumbrances and I hereby agree to convey title of the Artwork to the buyer and pay the BIAF a 20% commission of the selling price;
  (c) I consent to the display and use of my original Artwork or images thereof by the BIAF. In addition, I consent to the use by BIAF of any photographs or video taken of me or my Artwork in association with this Artwork submission. This consent applies in all forms known now or in the future, in all media and in all manners, including, but not limited to promotional or advertising purposes by the BIAF and I understand this use by BIAF shall be WITHOUT COMPENSATION;
  (d) I agree on behalf of myself, and on behalf of my representatives, assigns, next of kin, heirs, and executors to FOREVER RELEASE FROM LIABILITY AND WAIVE ANY RIGHT TO SUE, INDEMNIFY, DEFEND, AND HOLD HARMLESS the BIAF, their employees, members, officers, and agents (collectively the “Company”) from ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, including claims of the Company’s negligence, resulting in any physical or psychological injury, illness (including death) or economic loss I may suffer or which may result from my participation in the Contest, travel to and from the Contest, or any activities incidental to the Contest. I agree that my participation is COMPLETELY VOLUNTARY and I ASSUME ALL RISKS, whether known or unknown to me;
  (e) If I am signing on behalf of a minor, I warrant that I am the parent or legal guardian of the minor and am entitled to enter into this agreement on their behalf;
  (f) The invalidity or unenforceability of any provision of this agreement shall not affect the validity or enforceability of any other provision and the invalid or unenforceable provision shall be interpreted so as to remain valid and enforceable to the maximum extent permissible consistent with applicable law.
